Exploring the Birth of the Foxtrot

In the 1913 edition of Ziegfeld Follies, Harry Fox, a vaudeville comedian, unveiled a new dance move to the tune of “Ragtime.” This dance, famously known as the Foxtrot, swiftly captured the hearts of Americans and has since become a timeless standard in the realm of social dancing.

Mastering the Art of the Foxtrot

The fundamental components of the Foxtrot encompass graceful walking steps and rhythmic side steps. In more expansive dance halls, dancers have the opportunity to execute longer, controlled movements, creating an illusion of effortlessness in this dance form.

Embarking on Your Foxtrot Journey

Foxtrot music is typically composed in either 2/2 or 4/4 timing. The accentuation falls on the first and third counts during the 4/4 rhythm. The Foxtrot offers three distinct tempos: Slow Foxtrot, medium, and fast, with the latter being recognized as the social tempo.
